St Paul Street Gallery is excited to present a curated programme of exhibitions, events, performances and screenings.
Upcoming projects include:
2012
Gallery One: Assembly Gallery Two: Local Time (Danny Butt, Jon Bywater, Alex Monteith, Natalie Robertson). 12 April - 11 May, 2012
Assembly is a conceptual proposition that asks its participants to consider the following questions: who is able to speak freely and fearlessly? About what topics is it important to speak? From what moral, ethical or spiritual position does one speak? What are the consequences of speaking frankly? How does this relate to the exercise of power? These questions, posed by Michel Foucault in 1983, will be addressed over three weeks through architectural interventions, intimate and public events, happenings, performances, discussions, screenings, pamphlets and the internet. Alongside Assembly and complementing, even overlapping it, will be a project in Gallery Two by the collective Local Time.
Documentaries Part 2 Galleries One and Two Curated by Fiona Amundsen, Dieneke Jansen and Vera Mey. 24 May - 29 June, 2012
Continuing on from the Documentaries exhibition from Gallery Three in December 2011, Documentaries Part Two sets out to critique aspects of the dominant rhetoric associated with documentary practice itself, namely the ‘politics of lens based representation’.
Tautai Trust exhibition Galleries One and Two 5 July - 27 July, 2012
The annual Tautai Trust exhibition supports contemporary pacific art through actively fostering and maintaining links between contemporary pacific visual arts and the development of artists of Pacific heritage. Every year ST PAUL St Gallery hosts Tautai Trust to support a curator to develop an exhibition of artists with Pacific Island heritage studying in the Auckland area.
